Berta and Ernestine sponsored by Janine Carter

Janine Carter is sponsoring Berta and Ernestine.   They are such good girls, they behave themselves and are real lovers.  They are usually very quiet all day long but when they do bark it is a big bark to match their size.  You couldn't ask for 2 gentler dogs.  It's not their fault that they are large, but along with a nice big dog you get all the love their nice big hearts could possibly give!  They do not have to be adopted together although we would love it if they were.  Also they do not eat any more than any other dog so  don't think you would have any larger dog food bill than you would have with a dog 20 pounds lighter than either of them.   If you're looking for a whole lot of lovin' these girls would fill the bill, you could not go wrong with either one, and if you adopted them both that would be prefect!  They have been in the kennel so long and they sure would love to have a home for Christmas.

Happy ending for Puma

I adopted Puma on October 15th, 2010 & my world hasn't been the same.  I never realized I could love an animal so much.  I took 2 other kittens in the play room before I took in Puma, but whereas the other two were scared, Puma came right up to me & brushed up against my leg.  I immediately picked him up & I told the owners that he was the one I wanted.  I have loved him more and more every day since then.  He has made my life a little less lonely & I love him for the joy he brings me & the love he shows.  I don't know what I would do without him.  Tomorrow will be two months since I've had my little mountain lion (Puma).  Thank you for having Puma bear there for me :-)

Cost of cat adoptions to increase

As of January 1st we will have to increase the donation to adopt cats and kittens.  We have fought doing this tooth and nail but everything is going up.  1 bottle of cepha drops to treat 1 cat or kitten is a little over $15.00 and the new wormer is  $9.00 a dose let alone the increase cost of Eclipse 4 cat vaccine : (  Even the cost of the cardboard cat carriers to get them home has increased.  We will see how it goes after the first and at that time the donation will increase to $60.00 with an additional $25.00 spay/neuter deposit if needed.

Stockings are up at the Shelter

In the past we have had a Holiday Open House, and some friends always call saying they have problems making whatever date we have chosen.  This holiday season, the animals would love to see you whenever you can stop in for a visit.  Friends of the shelter are always welcome to stop by and visit the wonderful animals awaiting adoption.  They love the added attention, and a few kind words.  Of course if you want to bring treats or toys to fill their Christmas stockings those are always welcome.  If you are not sure what to bring, monetary donations are always welcome to help with food, supplies and medical bills.  Friendly purrs and happy wagging tails are sure to greet you when you stop by.

Happy ending for Atta & Tiger

Just wanted to say that we have been thrilled with our 'babies'. We adopted 2 kittens in 1999 from TLC, one male and one female, from the same litter. They have been our little joys ever since. We have sinced moved from the area and live in Champaign, IL. It took them a while to get used to their new home, but they love having more room (and a basement) to explore. Thought I'd share a few recent photos of Atta and Tiger. Atta is a bit smaller and has white on her paws and chest. Her paws are pink while Tiger's are black. Atta sleeps with my daughter and Tiger sleeps with me since the day we brought them home.
They really love drinking out of the toilet, silly cats. And they rarely sit together, so this was a rare shot of them! You can see how surprised they are that I caught them for this picture.
Thanks again for what you do and for making our lives a bit more enjoyable.
Nancy Johnson

Happy ending for Harley

We adopted Harley from TLC on November 22, 2009. He’s coming up on his 1 year anniversary with our family.
He has been a wonderful addition. We took him to Muskegon, MI this summer, where he got to run around and play in the water. He wasn’t too happy in the water, but he enjoyed sitting on the dock watching us fish.
He’s still a little shy, but he’s coming around. Attached is a picture of Harley on Vacation. Thank you for a wonderful dog!

Happy ending for Trouble

Hi my name is Denise Oswald and we have adopted a white cockapoo named "TROUBLE" about 5 months ago. She is the best dog ever. We love her to pieces. She is right at home here and VERY spoiled. She has 2 Golden Retrievers to play with and some kitties. They all get along very well. Don't know why her name is Trouble because she is the best well behaved and loving dog. She loves to go to the groomer and runs in the yard. What a pleasure to have her. I just want to thank TLC for introducing me to Trouble. She's the best. Thanks Again!

Happy ending for Noe and Nya (formerly Mabel and Molly)

Our family made the decision to finally get a dog. I felt strongly about getting a dog from a shelter and spent several days browsing as many shelters' websites as I could find in the Chicagoland area. I came across Mabel and Molly right in our own backyard. Our intention was to get "a" dog, but when I went to TLC and saw two of the cutest little faces ever, I couldn't think for a minute of separating these sisters. I brought my husband and kids back that same day to meet them, and the girls came home with us!
Noe and Nya have been the most amazing additions to our family. They fit in right away and have added so much to our home. Our son and daughter couldn't love them more and Noe and Nya love them right back. They are great with the kids! It has been awesome learning their personalities and seeing the differences between our new furry babies. Noe loves to play with her toys and sit by the heat registers. She is very obedient and mature and her little mohawk and silly teeth make her unique. Nya loves snuggling on our laps and loyally follows us around eveyrwhere we go in the house. She is spunky and loving. They both enjoy their special dinners that I love making for them and going for nice long walks.
I often wonder about their previous family and how they are feeling. I know I would miss them dearly and always wonder how they were being treated. Rest assured, Mabel and Molly are in a happy home where they receive lots of love and attention, and the love and attention they return to us is cherished. Thank you for raising them to be the pups they are today!

Happy ending for Dexter

We adopted Dexter on October 9, 2010 and our lives have not been the same since and I mean that in a good way!! We love our little Dex and have been sharing pictures and updates with our friends and family on facebook ever since. He is a great little guy and has already become a very important addition to our family, we feel extremely blessed.
My husband and I walked into TLC on a sunny beautiful Saturday afternoon not really intending on bringing home a dog. We sat on the bench inside and Dex was sitting right in front of us. The lady asked if we wanted to take him outside so we said okay still not planning on getting a dog that day. While outside we realized how special Dex was. We brought him home and our 16 & 18 year old thought we found a stray then we explained that Dex was actually ours. They were shocked.
Dex has brought our family closer together in the short month that we have had him. Our teenagers spend much more time downstairs with us enjoying the new addition to our family and don’t mind helping out with him. Probably because they know they don’t have to because my husband and I love walking, feeding and training him. Dex is a year old and still has a lot of energy which we love!! He loves playing fetch with us and when he’s not playing he is sitting in our laps getting plenty of attention. Thanks TLC and thanks to the family who brought him in we are sorry you could not keep Dex but please know that we love little Dex very much!
PS – I am enclosing two photos of Dex. The long haired photo is what Dex looked like when we brought him home. We recently took him to the groomer for his first bath and haircut so the second photo shows him looking completely different with his short hair and cute bandana. I love him both ways!!
Gratefully yours,
Sue

Happy ending for Tweek

I adopted "Tweek", a tuxedo cat with a cute black mark on her nose, in May, 2010 at TLC. She is a first cat for me and I have to say she is simply wonderful. She shares our home with two dogs and they all get along great. Thank you to her first owners who taught her so well. She comes when called and is quite friendly.

She gets to go outside with very close supervision and loves rolling on the patio and lawn, making up stories in her head as she creeps from the flowers to the bushes, ready to attack any bug in her path. She especially likes Tucker, a poodle/terrier, and loves to hang around him when they're outside.

She commandeered the cover to the crock pot one day when I was making stew and it's perfect for her nap time. Her new "bed" sits on my computer desk and once in a while she'll come out and sit in front of the keyboard giving me a break to pet her. She likes watching the cursor on the screen until it gets the best of her and she has to get up and whack it one. It baffles her.

She loves boxes and bags, as I have found out, and she darts from one to the other when they're left out for her to play with. She has a nice window seat and I wave goodbye to her when going to work. It's so nice to see her in the window...makes my house even that much more a home.

I totally enjoy this little girl and is being treated like the sweetheart she is. Thank you so very much.

Happy ending for Junior

The Milo Family adopted “Junior” from TLC back on 10/23/10; he is doing FANTASTIC.  Very smart dog; within a week and half, we have taught Junior to sit and give his paw on command.  He is “great” with kids and other animals.  (We are still working on  potty training.)  We have signed Junior up for Obedience School w/ PetSmart (8 week program).  Junior is a great addition to our family; we love him!  J

Happy ending for Boo

Thank you so much for allowing us to adopt our little pumpkin, Boo. She brings so much joy to our hearts and youthfulness into our other dogs. She is so happy and spoiled!

It has been over a year since we adopted her on July 3, 2009 (sorry it took so long to write). At the shelter she had no name and was listed as a Dachshund Mix. The reason why I “thank you” for allowing us to adopt her is because we could feel the sense of hesitation in approving our adoption when we brought our 3 other dogs (Bullmastiff, Lab Mix, and Lhasa Apso). Visiting Boo at the shelter with our giant dogs, she was scared. How that changed! She loves to play with our Lab Mix and bite his ankles – it’s too funny! Loves to give our Bullmastiff kisses. How could anyone have let this awesome dog go to stray!?!? Or any other awesome dog for that matter! I will never understand. However, I faithfully believe everything happens for a reason. For Boo, she was let a stray to eventually find her way to a fantastic loving home where she will forever be happy and loved… with us!

After we brought her home the day of her adoption, we had pulled 12 ticks off her body and discovered she had problems with her back leg. After having her spayed shortly after the adoption and saving money for her knee surgery, which was performed in December, she is doing great health wise.

Thank you again!

Happy ending for Zowey

We adopted our puppy, Zowey, from TLC. We had seen a picture of her and her sister on your web site and couldn't wait to meet them. Our family dog, Makayla (Siberian Huskey) had passed away due to cancer in her spine. We had adopted her from the animal shelter in Chicago Ridge. Makayla was 10 years old and was the most wonderful dog you could ever imagine. Her loss devastated us and left a huge void in our lives. We couldn't imagine that we could ever love another dog, the way we loved her. Boy were we wrong. Zowey has filled our home with so much love and laughter. Our son Ryan is 21 and he has Down Sydrome. Zowey has taken an instant liking to him and Ryan couldn't be happier. Thank you TLC for helping us find the perfect dog for our family. The man at the front desk gave is wonderful advice. He told us to put the puppy in the backyard before bringing her into our home and not play with her, so she could go to the bathroom. I have to tell you his advice worked perfectly, she has never had an accident in our home. We wanted to let you know that Zowey is a very happy dog and she filled a huge void in our lives. Thank you TLC!!

Happy ending for Miss Mazzy

Hi TLC,

We just wanted to say THANK YOU for Miss Mazzy, the 6(ish) year old Cocker Spaniel we adopted from you on July 20th. We absolutely adore her and have welcomed her as a family member.

A total charmer, Maz has a sweet, gentle, and loving disposition. She is still pretty nervous though so she follows Mama around like a shadow, none-the-less she enjoys meeting anyone and everyone, dogs too, and is just a good-natured little thing.

The Mazster was potty trained in about 5 days and we treated her for tummy upset and ear infections. The vet said she possibly had a heart murmur, but otherwise gave her a clean bill of health. We plan to spay her once the vet gives us the go ahead, but they will check her again tomorrow to decide about that (the murmur could be an issue with anesthesia).

just wanted to let you know that things are going exceptionally well and we are grateful.

With kind regards,

The Gray/Weslar Family
